Comments

1WE THE SOUTH  J Moreira  (H/XB)

Hard ridden to stride to lead from outside gate before crossing to rail near 700m. Raced clear on straightening before continuing strongly in charge to line to win by cozy margin.

2HAPPY GOOD GUYS  A Hamelin

Showed good speed after start before being crossed & racing on leaders back from 700m. Improved to second soon after straightening before finishing off well to hold that position. No match for winner but clear of third.

3ARDENODE  K Teetan  (TT)

Didn't have the early speed of others & drifted back to race worse than midfield away from rail. Entered last section over 4L from lead before making good late ground between runners to move to third at the 100m.

4JAZZ STEED  M F Poon  (TT)

Slow to begin before hard ridden & mustering speed to race midfield on rail. Entered last section 5.5L from lead before making up a few lengths when running on to non-threatening fourth in on-speed dominated race.

5COMPASSION STAR  M L Yeung

Drifted back after the start & raced just worse than midfield early before improving position to be 4L from lead at 800m. Continued to improve between runners nearing corner before only holding position in straight.

6HIN YUEN BIS  H N Wong  (TT)

Unbalanced at start before striding to midfield when three wide. Bumped & forced wider near the 650m before cornering the widest runner when 3.5L from lead. Held margin in the straight but was never a genuine threat.

7VERY SWEET ORANGE  N Callan  (V)

Hard ridden to race prominently but couldn't hold out leader/winner before eventually settling second, 1L from lead. Couldn't stay with the winner on straightening before yielding over 3L in dash to line.

8SUN OF MAKFI  B Shinn  (XB)

Steadied & shifted across to race second last after start. Entered last section nearly 6L from lead before making up a length in late stages to midfield in race that may be short of best. Never likely.

9LITTLE THUNDER  C Wong  (B)

Obtained position in midfield on rail throughout early & middle stages. Continued on inside, just over 4L from lead entering last section before offering little in the straight & weakening further to be well beaten.

10G UNIT  K H Chan  (B2)

Raced behind leading trio after start before keen, bumped & shifted out near 650m & consequently racing three wide, 2L from lead thereafter. Lost some ground when cornering wider before weakening out meekly in straight.

11SEVENTH SEA  H W Lai  (SR)

Shifted across behind runners to race third last after start. Forced wider approaching corner, continued 6L from lead entering last section but failed to improve & was well beaten.

12COUNTRY BOY  A Badel  (TT1)

Niggled along to hold position at rear before becoming detached approaching the 700m. Weakened badly in second half of race & was a very long last. (Must trial).
