Began well, settled just off the pace in 3rd on the rail, quickened well to gain upper hand over 100 metres out.

Soon taken back to midfield in 7th, came under pressure after straightening, fought on well to snatch 2nd late.

3CALIFORNIA ARGENT  H T Mo  (H/TT)

Ridden from a wide gate to take up running on the rail rounding the first bend, led and keenly at times in back straight, found no extra over 100 metres out and lost 2nd final strides.

4CLEAR CHOICE  G van Niekerk  (B/TT)

Recovered from a moderate start to settle in 4th within 3L of the pace, held the same into home straight, made moderate progress without threatening.

In midfield on the rail travelling keenly at times in back straight, made up good ground under pressure inside the final 200 metres.

Ridden positively from a wide gate travelling wide around first bend, remained wide without cover in forward of midfield in back straight, produced good late impression inside the final 200 metres.

Soon taken well behind, finished off the race strongly inside the final 200 metres.

Travelled in worse than midfield, made modest progress without threatening.

Settled in last few to home straight, ran on steadily down the centre of the track, never nearer.

Soon crossed for rails run in worse than midfield, in similar position turning for home, looked improving when steadied from heels 200 metres out, made no further impression. (Questioned for disappointing performance)
