The two Japanese contenders in Sunday's Hong Kong Audemars Piguet QEII Cup - Al Ain and Danburite - finished 5th and 7th, respectively, in the eight-horse field, failing to repeat the winning performance by Neorealism from last year.

Local trainer Tony Cruz took control of the race with a one-two finish, with Pakistan Star winning the tight-packed race and Gold Mount coming three lengths behind for second. Race favorite and Cruz's third horse in the field, Time Warp, failed to hold ground in the home straight of the 2,000m race and finished last.

On the other hand, the Grade 1 Chairman's Sprint Prize, which was also held on Sunday over 1,200m, was dominated by horses trained by John Size, with Ivictory winning the race over stablemates Mr Stunning and Beat The Clock. Japan's Fine Needle, winner of the Takamatsunomiya Kinen in March, finished fourth.
