Led by a neck on the fence at 1000 M, going well when clear by 1L turning for home, always holding a decisive break from then on.

Handy position in 'one-out-one-back' spot through to the 600 M, tight for room on straightening, clear 350 M out but couldn't get to the winner.
3ENCOSTA DON  B Prebble

3-back on fence in midfield at halfway and similar off last bend, stayed on fairly well along the inner for a place.

Midfield with cover no worse than 3Ls or 4Ls from the pace before the home turn, had every chance to place but just scraped in for 4th.

Around 10th and 5Ls from the early speed, crept a little closer taking last bend, made some nice late ground out wide and barely missed 4th.

Towards rear at least 4Ls or 5Ls from the pace down the back, without clear running off final curve, soon clear and one-paced on the run-in.

Went back from widest gate, never travelling well in rear and 5Ls adrift swinging into the straight, never got to the principals.

Rearward at least 4Ls or 5Ls from the speed until the straight, failed to make much of an impact in the final 400 M.

Box-seated in 3rd about 2Ls off pace on fence at 1000 M, in 2nd turning for home but lacked any acceleration when the tempo quickened.

3-wide with cover around midfield in middle stages when 4Ls from the pace, 4-wide off home bend, very weak inside final 200 M. (Tactic questioned.)

Over-raced for most of back straight when 4-wide no cover in rear, 5Ls last and 5-wide (widest of all) into the stretch, no impression.
12GALLANT HUSSAR  M Du Plessis

Disappointing run, keen at first then niggled along in midfield at halfway, pressured and 4Ls behind wheeling for home, soon beaten. (Questioned for poor performance.)
13BREEZY WILL  E Saint-Martin  (TT)

3-wide no cover before slipping in 2-wide and half a length back in 2nd at 1000 M, still close-up at top of home straight but quickly dropped out. (Bled.)

Performance deemed unacceptable, trapped 3-wide no cover when 1L back in 3rd at 800 M, hard pressed to lie up turning in, quickly left behind.
